CLEAR UPDATES. ORIGINAL WRITING.
Seoul changes. Here is what to check.
These notes distinguish serious errors, outdated offers and unverified practical details from Peter’s original essays. They are not a claim that every venue has received a fresh inspection.
Five hundred years of the Joseon Dynasty in Seoul
Guard-changing times and the “100 years” reference belong to the original edition. Check the palace you plan to visit; Gyeongbokgung normally closes on Tuesdays, with holiday exceptions.
Seoul experienced through museums
The original “33 hectares (3300 acres)” conversion is incorrect: 33 hectares is about 81.5 acres. Visitor averages and exhibit descriptions are historical, not current museum statistics.

Experience traditional culture in Namsangol Hanok Village
The Friday/Saturday costume experience and weekend events in the essay are not a current schedule. Seoul’s official listing now gives Monday as the regular closing day; check its seasonal hours and event calendar.
An experience in temple life
This is a cultural essay, not a current templestay booking offer. Check each temple’s visitor access and actual program availability. Religious interpretation in the original is the author’s framing.

A leisurely walk along the castle walls of Seoul
The blanket instruction to reserve the Mt. Bukak course is historical. Access varies by wall segment and conditions; do not use the original reservation or transport instructions as a current route plan.
The traditional markets of Seoul
Prices, claims about medicinal herbs and rankings such as “most popular” reflect the old guide. They are not current price comparisons, medical advice or verified product recommendations.

Bukchon: walk the alleys of everyday life
Important change: tourist visits to Bukchon’s designated red zone are restricted to 10:00–17:00. This applies to the designated area, not every street in Bukchon. Follow posted boundaries and respect residents; the essay’s invitation to wander anywhere is not current access advice.
Insadong: a Mecca of traditional culture
The Sunday 5 p.m. mock-robbery performance, named vendor and traffic arrangements are historical observations, not confirmed current events. Check today’s official listings before planning around them.

Samcheong-dong: the streets of fusion
The essay’s named galleries, nightly jazz claim, museums and teahouse activities are not freshly verified venue recommendations. Check the individual venue before making a special trip.

Hongdae: the creative edge of culture
Seriously dated: the 15,000-won multi-club ticket, thirteen-club count and twice-monthly Club Night/Sound Day timetable. These describe the original era, not an offer or schedule available today.
Official visitor lookup; live details not individually verified
Apgujeong: the sophisticated, sexy side of Seoul
Fashion leadership, celebrity sightings and venue descriptions are period impressions, not current rankings or promises. The original’s broad descriptions of people should be read as the author’s voice in its historical setting.
Official visitor lookup; live details not individually verified
Daehangno and Sinchon: streets of youth and passion
University counts, street performances, shop descriptions and “cheap” prices are historical. The guide’s Sincheon/Shinchon spellings refer here to Sinchon near Yonsei, not the different Sincheon area.
Official visitor lookup; live details not individually verified
Itaewon: an arena of cultural diversity
Seriously outdated: the claim that a USFK-wide military curfew is still enforced. USFK ended that curfew effective December 17, 2019. The essay’s military geography and “foreigner district” framing also reflect its original period.
Royal cuisine: dine on dishes meant for kings
The named cooking programs and reservation opportunities are not current offers. The connection between food and healing is historical cultural commentary, not a claim that a meal treats illness.

Going local: a taste of Seoul
The old restaurant-selection promises refer to the printed guide’s venue directory, which is not republished here. No restaurant’s current opening, menu, price or ownership is implied by this essay.

Seoul street food: streets of satisfaction
Seriously dated: “all these foods can be had for 3,000 won or less” is an old price claim, not a current budget. Stall availability, ingredients and prices vary; ask about ingredients and allergens directly.
Official visitor lookup; live details not individually verified
Seoul’s antique markets: old sentiments, modern city
The “over forty percent” shop statistic and dealer geography are unverified historical claims. Check current dealers and provenance. This essay does not establish whether an object may legally be exported.
Official visitor lookup; live details not individually verified
Myeongdong and Namdaemun: the yin and yang of Seoul
The celebrity examples and growth claims date the essay. Prices, store mixes and the idea that bargaining is always expected are not current guarantees; ask the seller rather than assuming.
Official visitor lookup; live details not individually verified
Dongdaemun: the gate where fashion never sleeps
Seriously outdated: the old stadium flea-market description. The former stadium site is now associated with Dongdaemun Design Plaza and its history park; DDP opened in 2014. The old 30,000-store count and trading hours are not current shopping instructions.
Seoul: a city of festivals
Seriously dated: Hi Seoul Festival is the old name; it became Seoul Street Arts Festival in 2016. This essay is not a current festival calendar. Check the organizer for dates, venues and tickets.
Cheonggyecheon: where romance flows through Seoul
“Recently” restored and the 80,000 daily visitor average describe the essay’s period after the 2005 restoration. They are not current visitor figures. Check weather and official access notices before entering the stream paths.

Namsan: an oasis in the heart of the city
The yellow-bus routes, cheapest-transport claim, five-minute cable-car ride and works described as “currently underway” are historical. Check current operators, fares, queues and accessibility before choosing an ascent.
Official visitor lookup; live details not individually verified
The Han River: a thousand ways to enjoy Seoul
Seriously dated: the “recently declared” Han River Renaissance describes the 2007 project. Seoul announced the follow-up Great Hangang Project in 2023. The ten-dollar cruise and visitor totals are historical, not current fares or statistics.
Editorial review: November 5, 2026. No guidebook photos are used. New artwork is an illustration rather than evidence of a current venue.
