Meaning & context
Rather dynamic and still somewhat vague in meaning, one would simply respond with “heol” when surprised or even embarrassed by another’s statement. Somewhat similar to “oh my God” with a bit of sarcasm and even a little “huh?!” in the mix. Heol an expression of mild shock, surprise, or disappointment about something that simply doesn’t make sense (doesn’t compute). It can also be appended with
헐ㅜㅜ for added emphasis when texting, or 헐랭 [heol-rang] or even 헐퀴 [heol-kui]
for someone trying to be cute (usually a girl).

So MinShik sees JiTae kissing his sister.
Heol. [that’s gross!]
Then JiTae kidnapped MinShik and imprisoned him in a room for 15 years without explanation, all the while making him fall in love with his own daughter.
Heol. [but why?!]
But the whole story is just the story of Oedipus retold.
Heol. [too bad.]
