왜 씹어?
[wae sshib-eo]
why don’t you answer?; why you ducking me?
Meaning & context
문자 그대로는 “왜 너 나를 씹고(음식을 씹듯) 있어?” 라는 의미. 이 표현은 잡담하는 것 이외에 정말 할 일이 없을 때 쓰인다. 사실 문자 그대로의 의미와는 정반대로 누군가의 말, 특히 문자메시지에 회신을 하지 않을 때 하는 말이다. 또한 “씹지마”라는 표현은 “내 메시 지 모른 척 하지 마”라는 의미이다.
Literally “Why are you masticating me?” This expression has nothing to do with “chewing the fat.” In fact, it is quite the opposite. It is about chewing someone’s words, or more specifically a text message, and simply ignoring it or failing to answer in a reasonable amount of time. Similar to getting the “brush off” or being “blown off” by someone who would rather just ignore you than just come out and say something to clarify, like “Bite me! “ Also: 씹지마 [ship-ji-ma] for “stop ducking me,” or literally, “Don’t chew me.”

Why you shibeo?
뭐? 씹어?! 나 아무것도 씹고 있지 않아… 점심 먹을 시간 없거든.
Huh? Chewing?! I’m not chewing anything… I don’t have time for lunch.
아니, 왜 내 메시지에 회신 안 하냐고!
No, why don’t you answer my messages?
네가 1시간 동안 메시지를 27개나 보냈잖아!
You’ve sent me 27 messages in the last hour!
그건 그렇지만, 나 안보고 싶어?!
But, don’t you miss me?!
아, 지겨워! 나 지금 일하고 있잖아! 나 좀 혼자 내버려 둬!
Ah, chigyeowo! (interminable!) I’m at work! Leave me alone!
그 년 때문에 정말 미쳐버리겠어!
That bitch is driving me crazy!
임마, 그만 좀 씹어. 여자친구 욕을 그렇게 하면 안되지.
Dude, don’t shibeo, you shouldn’t talk shit about your girl.
아, 걘 도대체 어떻게 알아차린 거지?!
Ah, how is she going to find out?!
너 전화 안 끊었어! 네 여자친구 다 듣고 있어, 멍충이.
You never hung up! She’s still on the line, dumbass!
오, 젠장!
