Meaning & context
뒤땅의 의미는 한국의 전통 민속게임 윷놀이로부터 유래하였다. 이것은 윷놀이에서, 상대 편의 말이 다 앞선 뒤의 뒤쫓고 있는 다른 말들을 의미한다. 이것이 까다의 때리다라는 의 미와 결합되면서 누군가를 뒤에서 욕하는 것을 뜻하게 되었다.
The meaning of duiddang comes from the traditional Korean game of yut, in which it means to be among the group trailing the lead horse. When combined with the hitting aspect of ggada, it has come to mean speaking ill of someone. Similar to the English expressions “talk behind somebody’s back,” “trash talk” or ”talk shit about someone,” and relates to a gossip monger. Synonyms: 뒷담[dui-dam] & 뒷담화[dui-dam-hwa] gossip (literally “back wall talk”), 뒷
담화까다[duid-dam-hwa-gga-da] say spiteful things (literally, behind someone’s head).
