흑역사

History often comes back to haunt us. From our poor choices in hairstyles to the embarrassing Goth phase we went through in high school, our dark history sometimes finds its way to the light of the present day. Heukyeoksa is literally ‘black history’ and though it originally referred to past wars or other dark periods in history, it has come to denote those times in our past that we’d rather forget.

역사는 종종 되돌아와 우리를 괴롭힐 때가 있다. 우리가 겪어 온 잘못된 헤어스타일 선택 에서부터 창피한 고스시절까지, 우리의 어두운 역사는 가끔씩 현재에 그 모습을 드러내기 도 한다. 흑역사는 문자 그대로 검은 역사를 의미하지만 원래는 과거의 전쟁이나 역사상 암울한 시절을 가리켰다. ‘현재는 차라리 잊어버리고 싶은 그러한 과거의 시절들을 의미’ 하게 되었다.
